New Year’s Resolutions for kids

New Year’s Resolutions for kids

With Christmas just round the corner, New Year is all set to knock on your doors. Welcoming Santa with cookies and milk is one tradition that Christmas brings along. But do you remember the other tradition? I am talking about making a New Year’s Resolutions list. While you will surely make a list for yourself, how about introducing this fun concept to your child as well? Not only will it encourage your child to be a better version of himself/herself, it will also encourage your child to follow the list religiously. To help your child make the New Year’s Resolution list, you need to break free from the mundane points such as waking up early, brushing teeth twice a day and so on. Your child is likely to get bored with the list within a few days of the New Year. It is hence, best to keep your New Year’s Resolutions list innovative. The list should be such that it should nudge your child to grow into a better person. So take this opportunity of molding your little one into a better version of himself/herself. Here’s what you can include in your child’s New Year’s Resolutions list to make it positive and encouraging.

Eating healthy: Eating healthy goes onto the top of your list. But your child will not change overnight into a green leafy vegetable eater. So how about modifying the list to drinking at least 2 glasses of milk everyday. You can also include eating a fresh fruit everyday along with a handful of nuts in between the meals. This will make it easier for your child to follow.

Exercising: Yes, you guessed it right. Exercising is a boring task for kids but the change here is that you can ask your child to take up a new sport for the New Year. Allow some time for your child to come up with a sport that interests them, be it cricket, football, swimming or even tennis. Lock on to the same and enroll your child into it.

Less screen time: This can be a difficult thing to give up for your child. So instead of taking away the TV, laptop or even a mobile phone from your child, ask him/her to set aside at least 1 hour of reading everyday. Your child must develop the habit of reading a book 30 minutes before bedtime instead of playing games on the phone.

Help around the house: How can you expect your child to help you in every single household task? Simple. Ask your child to lay down the dinner table every night. Your child can help you setting the dinner table.

Become eco-friendly: Encourage your child to become more eco-friendly by fist introducing it at home. Teach your child to save water by shortening the bath time, keeping the tap off while brushing teeth and recycling the dirty water used to wash vegetables and fruits by pouring it into the plants. Turning off the lights and fans when not required also comes under it.

Spending time with family: In the world of media and technology, kids barely spend time with their families. Make it a point or a norm for your child to spend the weekend evenings with the entire family. You’ll can play board games or even different sports, bake cookies and watch movies on Saturday nights.

These tips on making a New Year’s Resolution with your kids will definitely help them become better. You can hang the list in your child’s room so that they can notice it everyday after waking up. Make sure your child tries following all of them everyday. With you following your list religiously, your child will be motivated to follow theirs.
