Household chores have become synonymous with a housewife. The reason is because men think it’s solely a woman’s job to run the house. While today, the modern-age woman not only runs the house but even has an outdoor job that she works at. All this leads to things taking a toll on a woman’s life, especially her health. This being said, it is mostly her sleep that remains affected by large.

Ariel has taken up the responsibility of conducting a survey which states that as much as 71% of women in India sleep less than required due to the household chores. But Ariel’s job doesn’t end at the survey. Ariel has also come up with #ShareTheLoad campaign, which highlights the fact that men, too, should give women a helping hand in the household chores.

Not only will this reduce a woman’s effort in doing chores, which can easily be done by other members of the house, it will also allow her to seek adequate rest, with the time being saved. Uneven division of household chores like laundry is coming in the way of women getting enough sleep. Women are the first to wake up in the wee hours of morning and also sleep the last.

Lack of sleep itself is an indicator of the inequality within the household. Ariel has launched a short film, in sync with its #ShareTheLoad campaign showing how a woman often ends up tired with tons of household work that she does, which ironically never seem to end.

The film, at the end, highlights how her husband takes up the responsibility of doing the laundry so that his wife can seek the ‘much needed’ and ‘much deserved’ rest. This campaign urges the men in the house to at least take up the household chore of doing the laundry from amongst the other ton of chores that a woman does single handedly.

Ariel gave me this wonderful chance of inviting me to their #ShareTheLoad campaign where renowned personalities like Tahira Kashyap and Sharat Verma were gracing the panel discussion. Also present was Mandira Bedi, who along with Tahira managed to showcase how sharing the household chores, such as laundry helps responsibilities being shared equally. This campaign totally touched my heart as it has made its way into my life. I personally helmed
Ariel’s #ShareTheLoad campaign at my house, where I allowed it to branch out in a different way. I didn’t just let the campaign be limited to my husband, but also involved my little daughter. Today, whenever I do laundry, it is my daughter who gives me her little helping hand.

My husband too makes sure of doing basic household chores like laundry or cleaning the dinner table and plates. This allows me to save a great amount of time, which I love to spend on my army of elves who help me complete the household work on time.

I urge everyone, especially the men and the kids in the house to take up Ariel’s #ShareTheLoad challenge by helping your mother, sister and wife in household chores. Start out with something as simple as doing the laundry and you’ll see how the tiredness disappears from the faces of the women in your house.
